I did these drawings on April 27, 2016 just as I figured I was wrapping up my first draft of Migraine. (So naïve!) During the process of writing, I had spent a lot of time trying to remember how it felt to be in that 67-day migraine and needed a little bit of art therapy.
Today I submitted the manuscript to Amazon with 31 hours to spare before my pre-order deadline. Phew!
Anyway, I thought it might be fun to share these drawings with you. (All images © 2016 Sara Riley Mattson)
This first drawing became the image I used for my cover design. The rest were aspects of the surreal experience that is now Migraine: Finding My Own Way Out.
Thanks so much for all the great feedback from my previewers! Just like with Camp Like a Girl, you made the book fantastically better. I hope you enjoy the finished book, especially the 40 extra pages of Appendices, Notes, Further Discussion, and Suggested Reading. I had a lot of fun doing them. I really let my inner “science geek” stretch her nerd muscles. That was ridiculously fun. 🙂
Also, a reader of Camp Like a Girl, sent me this picture and message today:
We just had our first night sleeping in the van. Oh, Sara Riley Mattson, I get it now. That was some amazing sleep! Even the baby slept well.
Thank you, Simcha! You made my day. <3
